Though we are focused on the use of numerical modeling and simulation we regard these as tools and their application and issues we investigate are most important.

We have used these tools to develop manufacturing processes (with associated experimental developments). Examples of these include a recently patented technique for rapid and affordable diffusion bonding - a perfect joint. Other examples include supporting CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) with advanced wind tunnel and thermal measurements.

Though we have had contracts involving companies and institutions such as HSMarstons, BAe Systems, Rolls-Royce and the MoD we are also keen to help smaller companies in the UK through the Knowledge Partnership Scheme (KTP); small companies, too, have interesting technical and manufacturing problems.

We believe that there are significant, and neglected, opportunities in both manufacture and design and that, by these, we can make advanced materials and advanced products - but by affordable manufacturing!
Our relevant expertise and experience relates to
  • DB (Diffusion bonding) and joining of thin materials from titanium to plastic
  • Simulation, manufacturing and design of structured materials for lightweighting and ballistic performance.
  • Improved forming of thin materials by better heat management and design of die-tooling
  • Improved heat transfer and coolant flow and possibilities for micro channel flow
  • Vacuum insulation and robust design
  • Working and collaborating, remotely, with researchers and institutions
