The Midlands Simulation Group (MidSim) is based at the
University of Wolverhampton in the Midlands, which is recognised as the
heart of engineering and manufacturing industry in the United Kingdom.
The group is made up of active researchers having a common interest.
Our Aim:
The aim of the Midlands Simulation Group is to
facilitate
high quality research and development in the area of computer
simulation for
engineering and related industries.
Profile:
- Computer simulation is becoming increasingly important in
sectors such as aerospace, automotive, power generation, environmental
and white goods; where simulation can significantly reduce the
development costs.
- Simulations are used to prove new concept ideas, to improve
manufacturing processes, to prototype and trouble shoot products prior
to manufacture; reducing the need for expensive physical prototypes and
testing.
- Simulations can also be used to optimise the performance of
components, through predictive techniques such as stress analysis.
- MidSim are members of the Midlands Aerospace Alliance,
NAFEMS, and the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
- The group connects experts in computer simulation having
complimentary expertise in areas such as advanced materials,
manufacturing; and, product development and testing.
- Access to the very latest hardware such as the IBM Beowulf
super computer and cluster, the latest virtual presence suite, and a
wide range of simulation software ensure our expertise is matched by
our capabilities to solve today’s problems.
- When the limitations of our software is realised the group
has the expertise to develop bespoke software to solve specialist
problems.
